Farm Animals

One thing I always remind myself when creating play invitation for the girls is to not show all of my cards on the first presentation. Whether it is the tools, pieces, or manipulatives, START SIMPLE. Once interest slows, add something else in. Your littles can continue their play or incorporate the new object.

When I saw the progression of play continue to unfold with this simple sensory set-up, I saw it as a great opportunity to share the resources that we used.

We started with the Melissa and Doug barn and animals on the coffee table and floor.

Then I added the colored oats, scoops, and pail.

Then we added some garden tools.

Lastly, I created the animal matching cards. You can snag those HERE.

Here are some of our favorite farm books to add a literacy component! My girls love matching the animals to the pages!

Discovery: Moo on the Farm! Sound Book - We actually found this at Costco a few months ago!

Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm is literal GOLD! My girls love to act this story out. “Into the tub…!”

Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown (author of Goodnight Moon) is a classic!

We snagged Little Blue Truck from the library a few weeks ago and it was such a fun one!

Got a little babe interested in the farm? We loved our Jellycat Soft Tails Farm book! Those sweet tails peeking out are just so fun!

Oink, quack, moo on, my friends!
