Dry Goods & Grimm's Wooden Nesting Bowls

I've been looking for some additions for our sensory play, and finally settled on these Grimm's Wooden Stacking and Nesting Bowls. They're pretty to look at, won't distract from the play, are incredible quality, and got here fast thanks to Amazon Prime! When I'm looking at toys for the girls, I like to grab more open-ended things. I could spend $30 on an electronic toy that is targeted at their age, but they'll outgrow or lose interest, or I could invest in more open-ended items that could be used in a variety of ways with a multitude of items over many years. This isn't something I'm seeing them outgrowing for a long time.

I wanted to share three basic sensory items that we have used with these bowls.

Coffee Beans

The girls loved exploring the sounds that the beans made dropping into the different bowls. Our white ceramic bowl from Box Sparrow, the muffin tin, and the wooden bowls. We also practiced smelling (not eating) the beans and it provided a natural aroma as they played.

I was already able to see early connections about capacities being made through trial and error. Do I pour the big into the small or small into the big?

And, of course, all of this sensory play was done on our Gathre mat. Our one "rule" was to keep the items on the mat, so I was totally fine if they poured it anywhere. When we were done, we folded the mat and poured the items back into a ziploc bag for another day!

Already so excited to think about the other things we will use these bowls with!
